It’s great to know that they’re keeping their word! Scarlett Johansson fits the bill perfectly for the world of Avatar, which is inspired by various Asian and indigenous American cultures. This is also really exciting considering that Bryke told us right when the series was announced that it would have “ culturally appropriate, non-whitewashed” casting. If that’s the case, she could also be playing Princess Yue– she has the look totally down already.
She would be perfect for Avatar Kyoshi, or maybe even Suki if they’re deciding to age up the young characters for a more gritty, mature retelling of the story. Given how famous she is, we can assume that it’s going to be a main character, and since the number of female roles in ATLA Book One: Water is relatively few, we can make some pretty solid guesses.
